I have been using Pandora for a few years now and I think its a fantastic way to listen to some music while you are at work. Also I really like it because I don't own a radio anymore, come to think of it I don't know many people who do own radios. I really like the way that it introduces you to new artists that fit the style of music you have chosen and I really enjoy how it apologizes for playing stupid music. I also really enjoy Live365 because it introduced me to my absolute favorite thing in the world, World Soccer Daily, the brilliant and hilarious radio show that is all about everything soccer/football.

After looking at all of the options that were laid out for us I decided that I didn't want to "mashup my life". I really don't have that many services that I use and keep up with and I feel like setting up a page that combines them all takes away from their fun factor in the first place. If checking facebook and twitter separately really bothered with me then I wouldn't have both accounts in the first place. I can see how this would be helpful for someone with a massive amount of accounts on different sites but it just isn't for me. It would create more of a hassle than being helpful.

My favorite mashup by far was the "Wheel of Food". The biggest problem my friends and I have when we want to go out to eat is deciding where to go so I am most definitely going to use the "Wheel of Food" whenever that situation occurs. Brilliant. I looked at a few other mashups but overall I didn't feel that they were very useful.

I have always loathed the idea of scrapbooking but the idea of being able to do it online does make it much more appealing to me. I used Scrapblog and it was very very easy and totally self explanatory. I can see how this would be useful if a library wanted to scrapbook an event that had occurred at the library. I mean come on, all of the stickers and corny sayings are already assembled and I just have to upload my pictures into it? LETS GO!!!!

I was not able to download the screencast software onto the computer at work but I did watch the Jing tutorial and explore the website quite a bit. It seems like it would be very easy to use and the tutorials do a very good job of explaining the features of the website. I can see how this would be very useful if a person needed to create a presentation for a computer class. Otherwise I don't know when I would use it personally, but perhaps now that I have been introduced to this concept the occasion could arise.

for this thing i played around with Picnik which i found to be really fun and very easy to use once i got the hang of it. i can definitely see this being used in a library for a number of different projects, all of the fun stickers and fonts you can add would be very useful especially for the childrens librarian.

I think out of all of the generators the image generators would have the most use for advertising events at the library. Other than that the generators were pretty fun but I don't really see where they come in handy at a library. The fairy name generator was absolutely hilarious, i think i might legally have my name changed to Hex Goblinfilter.

i am really really enjoying this thing so far. the thing that i am most excited about is the bookmooch website. it just seems like such a cool concept. i also signed up for reading trails but so far that seems like a bust. i'm already a member of librarything and have really enjoyed using that. i think that electronic books however are incredibly stupid and i can't imagine that it is good for your eyesight. why would anybody ever in their life want to read a book on their phone? i just don't get it. i think that although right now book technology is kind of the "it" think i don't expect that it will annihilate tangible books anytime soon. theres just something about picking up a real book and flipping the pages that can never be duplicated with technology.

the obvious appeal of an online answer site is the immediate response that you are able to get from it. i think that a lot of the questions posed on the sites are kind of ridiculous and would be a waste of a librarians time and the online answer sites serve their purpose here. i do think however that a lot of people are uneducated about all of the great resources that can be found at a library. time and time again people are absolutely shocked when we prove to be so helpful. :-)

I think that travel 2.0 is a very cool concept and one that I will definitely be using when I plan trips abroad or even if I'm looking for a cool idea for a road trip. I am very excited to look at more of those websites when I begin planning my trip to Ireland that I'll be going on in the fall. It looks like a lot of the websites have a lot of great information and tips. That being said I don't know how it is applicable to a library. Probably for work trips and other work related travel but within the library I don't see where it fits.

I created a google mashup of my trip to Denver that I went on to visit my sister at the Colorado School of Mines. I thought that the mashup was interesting and might be a lot of fun if I was planning a road trip again. I don't really see much of an opportunity to use it in a library setting though.

I read my google reader every day. I have different folders for my different obsessions, for example a folder specifically for different recipes and posts about food and a folder dedicated to my obsession with football (soccer). As well as a folder that houses most of my nerdier impulses. The way I have it organized makes it very easy to browse and it is a lot of fun. Also, I don't use delicious because it annoys me.

I played around with Google News for a little while and I think that it could be very helpful if I was in seventh grade again and needed some awesome current events. It could also be very helpful if ever I wanted to read as much as possible about a current event, otherwise I do not see myself using it very often. I also played around with my Google calender that I had started, I organized it by dividing up the events into separate calendars, such as a personal one, one for school, etc.. I have tried a few of the other Google tools as well such as the document creator and such and have found them very useful.

I have had a google home page for a very long time and I adore it. I did notice while I was reading the articles comparing the different sites for home pages that what I like about igoogle is exactly what a lot of people didn't like about igoogle. It has a limited amount of capabilities, it won't play music and dance for me when I log in but thats okay with me. I like logging on to the internet, seeing my email a calendar and maybe a nice Einstein quote and then moving on. I feel that if I had a totally pimped out home page I would be in definite trouble considering how addicted I am to random crap on the internet in the first place.

I did play around with netvibes in order to try something new. What I liked about netvibes is that I was able to change my location. Because I am a huge nerd which most of you know I may or may not have changed my location to the UK because it then may or may not have made it easier to find applications dealing with English soccer. :-)

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh crap. I am now addicted to Twitter, absolutely fantastic. I definitely needed something else to distract me from living an actual life. I love the microblogging, I haven't really gotten into the posting so much but my stalker tendencies have definitely become more pronounced. I love following people, I have found quite a few interesting people to follow and it definitely keeps me entertained. I also found a couple of football clubs that have twitters and it keeps me updated on scores and transfer requests during the transfer window. Bloody fantastic.

I had not visited the Things Ning since the last round of Things. I think that it is a good idea to have a place for all the participants to get together and share ideas and get help from each other. That being said I really don't like the set up on Ning, I feel that the website itself is very disorganized and not that aesthetically pleasing.

To "enhance" the amazingness of my already incredible blog I added daily pictures of both Corbin Bleu (my heart be still) and a daily picture of footy (my heart actually be still). It was hard for me to find many widgets that seemed important, the all seemed rather useless to me, which would probably explain why I am now being stared down by Corbin Bleu every time I view my blog.

My absolute most favorite thing was the YouTube thing.
I. Love. YouTube.
It is the most fun one can have on the internet. I was able to connect with others through YouTube and posting video(s) that I knew would make people chuckle. I was surprised to find a few different sites that I will continue to use quite regularly, such as the online assignment organizer and my Google Reader.
I would definitely participate in this program again, and it all went pretty smoothly for me so I don't have any complaints or suggestions. It might be fun to add a thing about jazzing up your blog and different websites that provide templates for that.
My one sentence would be something along the lines of, 23 Things on a Stick really helped to enhance what I already knew about the online community.

I learned a lot more than I thought I was going to through 23 Things on a Stick, although I had a basic understanding of most of the "things" it was really helpful to learn more about them. I didn't think that I would enjoy learning about some of the things such as Google Reader and the online "assignment calculator" but I use both of those tools a lot now. I don't feel that I need to plan to keep up with the technology seeing as how I am only 21 years old and I keep up with most technology because I have no other choice. I am planning on getting my masters in Library and Information Science and I am sure that will help me stay on top of a lot of new online tools. The easiest way I have found to keep up with technology is by having a 13 year old sister that talks constantly about a bunch of useless websites and new fancy bojangles. ;-) Other than that you just have to stay interested and find things that you like to do online, if you don't enjoy any of it then you are going to grow tired of it really fast.

I am a member of Flixster and I pretty much only use it when I am bored and want to take a fun quiz online. The food sites interested me because I really love to cook and bake and I am always looking for good recipes so these sites seemed like a relatively painless way to find new items to make. I already subscribe to Epicurious.com and it is the most amazing site ever but it is more geared towards gourmet dishes and these other sites might be more useful when I am looking for a quick snack.
I don't think that I will be using Ning in the future just because it seemed kind of pointless to me, I didn't really understand the benefits of it. I do plan on using the food sites that I found online even though I already subscribe to a few it'll be nice having a couple more to browse through.

I have had a facebook page for the last three years and a myspace for as long as I can remember. Just for fun though I added a new group to my already awesome collection of groups on facebook and went with I have a not-so-secret crush on Grant Wilson...what the fetch?!, Grant Wilson being one of the Ghost Hunters on the most awesome reality show ever, Ghost Hunters. Its inexplicable but there is something about him that is just adorable, Dave Tango is definitely moving up in the ranks though if you ask me.
I think that facebook is definitely deserving of being the best and brightest of the social networks, I feel totally safe about what I put up on my page and it is a really fantastic way to keep in touch with people without having to make so much of an effort. And although I wish I could sit down and write all of my friends a beautiful little letter telling them how its going its just not possible when I work 30 hours a week and go to school full time.
The library MySpace pages that I looked at were pretty awesome, it is an excellent way to engage with a younger generation and get them interested in a library. I really liked the Hennepin County MySpace and how they allowed their youth "friends" to post video slideshows of things they did at the library, it was really a testament to how well MySpace must be working for them over there.

PODCASTS! I am a current subscriber to the World Soccer Daily podcast and I dutifully listen to it every day during the week to keep abreast of my favorite teams. It is an amazing podcast because it is funny and informative and a great way for me to keep up with soccer since most sports networks don't offer any soccer games...grrrrrrr! I use itunes because then when i plug in my ipod it automatically downloads the latest episode. I took a look at podcast.com and it was really easy to navigate around so I might use that in the future.

I'm sure that these tools can all be very helpful when you are trying to answer even the most random questions that patrons come up with. I know that I use EBSCO a lot for finding "scholarly articles" to use in papers or projects for school, however I do not have much experience with the other tools that are listed here. As a library assistant I usually just hand over the reference questions to an associate.

Holy Frack! Why didn't anyone tell me about these before hand!?! I am such a horrible procrastinator when it comes to anything to do with my schooling, and I find myself really missing the days in high school where every aspect of a project or paper was controlled by the teacher. I think that the assignment calculator can be a very useful tool for students, if only to help them stay on track.

Second life is hilarious. It reminds me a lot of the Sims except with some actual "interaction" between other people. I don't see a real specific role for it in libraries, but to be completely honest the only thing I can think of when I am on Second Life is the episode of The Office that involves Second Life.

Library Thing would be very useful for any library because it would be a fun and interesting way for the staff and other patrons to share their favorite books. The books in my "library" were all pretty popular except for my two favorite children's books that I added to it, which makes sense considering Library Thing probably isn't very popular amongst the kindergarten crowd.

My google home page has a lot of useful stuff on it, my favorite widget for example is the "laundry countdown" clock which is really helpful considering how forgetful I am. I am a relatively old fashioned girl however and I have always found that when things are online I am way more likely to forget about them. If I tried to manage my life via google calendar or any other sort of online productivity tool I would be really fracked. If I am making a list or writing down an appointment it needs to be on a post it note or somewhere else that I can visibly see it and even move it around with me. Perhaps one day if I ever get to the point where I am online enough to justify using these tools then I might find them useful, however right now in my life they just seem like more of a nuisance than anything.

I have been using digg for quite a while now, and although I love to spend hours on it messing around it can really kill any sort of momentum I have at the given moment. It is a big productivity detractor because it is so easy to get distracted by amusing news articles or funny web clips. If you are looking for a fun way to kill some time then I would definitely recommend a website like this or Stumbleupon but otherwise you are just better of searching for articles through a popular search engine.

i have been using del.icio.us for quite a while now and i am a huge fan. its extremely convenient to have when you are doing research for a paper or if you just find a cool website you want to share later on and aren't at your home computer its nice to have someplace to save the website to, rather than emailing a link to yourself. i feel that del.icio.us can be very useful in academic settings as well, i thought that it was really neat how the San Mateo library set up their del.icio.us page using the dewey decimal system. it was extremely helpful and a lot less annoying that searching through forty some separate pages of links that are completely unorganized.

the only experience that i have had with wiki's in the past is in regards to wikipedia. possibly the best website.....ever. i wouldn't say that wikipedia should be used for anything even remotely scholarly but it is a really good jumping off point and is also excellent for looking up completely obscure pop culture tidbits, which i do almost daily. the only issue i have with using a wiki in the library is the fact that anyone can edit the page, and i just cannot see that working out to our advantage. i feel like there would need to be someone policing the wiki at all times just to get rid of possibly offensive articles.

i found the google docs tool to be much easier to use just because I am very familiar with most google applications and their layouts. i didn't edit any part of the declaration of independence however because it felt kind of wrong to me, perhaps thats just my political science major influenced viewpoint on the subject. i think that the founding fathers would me majorly irked to find that people could "edit" the declaration of independence that they worked so hard on in an effort to grant the American people new freedoms. just a thought.

Thing 8 was a lot of fun for me to work on. I can see this tool being used in libraries to showcase pictures either for or from events that are going on. Personally I don't see much use for it unless I wanted to make a slide show of pictures to put onto my myspace or facebook. The only issue with that is that I keep most of my photos on facebook or myspace in the first place which kind of makes the slideshow a little pointless.

Our library uses email to connect to our customers and the other branches that are in our system. I really don't use email that much outside of work though, to get in touch with my friends I usually just leave them a message on Facebook which I know they will be checking a lot more frequently than their email. If what I need to say is a lot more urgent though I will just text them.

When me and my sister finally wore my dad down and convinced him to add texting to our cellular plan I was a little bit skeptical and was honestly just thinking of my sister and how badly she wanted texting. Alas, I have become completely addicted. I don't know what I would do without texting, my favorite part of the day is getting a random text with just a funny joke or a picture from one of my friends. Texting allows me to ask my roomate to pick up milk without having to listen to her talk about something completely unrelated for twenty minutes. Amazing.

I also use AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) and MSN instant messenger quite a lot. Its a nice way to catch up with some friends while also multitasking. I am very proud of the 22" computer screen that I have at home and its nice to be able to write a paper, talk to some friends and watch an episode of Battlestar Galactica all at the same time.

I wasn't able to check out the online web confrencing because of schedule conflicts but it is something that interests me.

I found thing 6 to be very easy but I also thought it was kind of pointless. I would have had a lot more fun if the creation was something other than a trading card, I really see no reason for me to be making trading cards now or really ever. I think I might try to make a puzzle though and that might be more entertaining.

i chose to use Google reader rather than bloglines because i am already a part of the Google universe with g-mail, blogger and other assorted goodies. because i was already registered with Google it was very simple for me to set up an account with Google reader and i have really enjoyed it so far. i really enjoy the template and how easy it is to maneuver around the site.

thing 1 is down and out for the count. creating the blog was pretty easy for me and i had a lot of fun finding a new template for blogger. i've only ever played around with html on myspace before.
